On Tap Notes – April 2015

It’s April and time to begin anew with the spring On Tap session. Class will begin on Monday April 6 at 7:45pm. It’s going to be a very busy dancing season as National Tap Dance day and our On Tap Showcase/party are both in May. So dust off your dancin shoes and jump onto the wood April 6! Here are your April On Tap notes:

 1) The Salem Public Library Adult talent show is Friday April 3 at 7pm. Call time for dancers that have been rehearsing for this show is 5pm at the library theater. All dancers have tickets to watch the show. However everyone else must pick up a FREE ticket at the library. The show is quickly filling up!

 2) I will be teaching a tap history/Broadway class (don’t know the time yet) at the Portland National Tap Dance Day Celebration Saturday May 23,  12-5pm. There will be many great classes available to take AND a showcase we can perform in that evening. We will be talking about this in class and deciding which piece to get ready for this event. Below is a copy of an email from the Portland National Tap Dance day organizers. Please save the date!

3) Our On Tap Showcase/Party for family and friends will be ON National Tap Dance Day, Monday May 25 at 8pm at the Broadway studio. This is your chance to share what you have learned this tap dancing year with family and friends. More details to come. Again, please save the date!

4)Here is the information from Portland:

Hello Tap Community.

We are trying to reach out to as many studios in Oregon and Washington, to invite them to Portland’s National Tap Dance Day Celebration! We are also trying to get a wide variety of Tap Instructors to volunteer an hour of their time to teach a class at this event. Volunteer Teachers get free admission to all workshop classes and showcase admission. The day will consist of up to 15 dance classes over a 4 to 5 hour span. A tap Jam with live musicians and admission to evening Showcase. We have a great syllabus planned for all levels of Tap. We are mostly offering intermediate and advanced level of Tap. But we would like to offer a beginning Adult Tap and Tapas class(Tap class and snacks!). We are in need of teachers to teach the following classes:

Cotton Club Jam – live musicians provided

Tap History

Funk Tap

Step in Time – different time signatures

Swing

Soft shoe

Competition

Tricks

Audition

*We have a few spots available for other styles! Let us know if you have a special genre of Tap you could teach!

We would love to see you or one of your teachers represent at Portland’s NTDD. Please respond ASAP so we can get our workshop line up finalized. Please email us with a Headshot, correct spelling of your name and what style of class you would like to teach.

Also, we are looking to hold our workshop classes at different studios in the future. If you are interested in hosting the workshop classes for Portland’s NTDD 2016, please let us know!

Come join us May 23rd from 12-5pm for an afternoon of Tap! Showcase will follow!

That’s all for now! Happy Spring everyone. The new term registration form is attached.

Yours in tap,

Stacey
