Hello Tap Community.

We are trying to reach out to as many studios in Oregon and Washington, to invite them to Portland’s National Tap Dance Day Celebration! Volunteer Teachers get free admission to all workshop classes and showcase admission. The day will consist of up to 15 dance classes over a 4 to 5 hour span. A tap Jam with live musicians and admission to evening Showcase. We have a great syllabus planned for all levels of Tap. We are mostly offering intermediate and advanced level of Tap. But we would like to offer a beginning Adult Tap and Tapas class(Tap class and snacks!). We are in need of teachers to teach the following classes:

Cotton Club Jam – live musicians provided

Tap History

Funk Tap

Step in Time – different time signatures

Swing

Soft shoe

Competition

Tricks

Audition

*We have a few spots available for other styles! Let us know if you have a special genre of Tap you could teach!

We would love to see you or one of your teachers represent at Portland’s NTDD. Please respond ASAP so we can get our workshop line up finalized. Please email us with a Headshot, correct spelling of your name and what style of class you would like to teach.

Also, we are looking to hold our workshop classes at different studios in the future. If you are interested in hosting the workshop classes for Portland’s NTDD 2016, please let us know!

On Tap Notes – February 2015

Fun memories of Christian about to

 blow out his birthday candles

Happy February Tappers! It’s that love filled month when we recall the great tap legend Gregory Hines who started my passion for teaching tap dance. He was such a patient and generous teacher and performer, so loved in the dance community and beyond. We have an exciting month ahead starting with where Gregory was the happiest, on stage. As we prepare for a show at the Capitol Manor and for the month ahead loving what we do and who we are I wish you smiles, laughter, and hearts filled with joy! Here are your February On Tap Notes:

 1. Monday February 9 tap class will be held at Capitol Manor in West Salem in their performance hall. Class will be at the regular time, 7:45pm. We will be preparing for the following nights show. Please come dance whether or not you are in the show. Those in the show please bring all your costumes and props to practice with.

 2. Monday February 9 we will also be celebrating many February birthdays. Happy tappy birthday to Danica Andresen (On Tap dancing since before her 2007 birthday!),Victoria Hanson-Apollonia, Hallidae Hunt whose real (or should I say reel!) birthday is show night the 10th, and our Valentines day “babies” :Sara Jaffee , my mom Loretta, and the legendary tap dancer/teacher Gregory Hines.  We will be doing the birthday dance together and of course sharing something sweet to honor these fine ladies and gentleman.

 3. All dancers please mark Tuesday February 10 for the Capitol Manor show in West Salem. We will be collaborating with the Celtic Claddagh Dancers for a very fun evening of Irish and tap dance. Call time is 6:15pm.

Watch this fun link that Sarah Hunt sent me..it’s a wonderful mix of tap and Irish:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T5OiGQOZWic&sns=em

 4. The Tap House is open for private and semi-private classes and welcoming back Dori Nelson and Marie Cunningham. I have missed you over the holiday extended break.

 5. Hamantashen cookie sales are now being taken and volunteers are needed to help create this 3 cornered, fruit filled cookie! We have been known to tap in the kitchen while making these! Work/dance sessions at Temple Beth Sholom in South Salem are Tuesday nights at 6pm and Sundays at 10am from February 8 to February 24. Please call or email me if you’d like to order some, help roll, fill, and tap out the 500+ dozen cookies!

As we enter this love filled month please send out special healing prayers for my mom Loretta whose birthday is also on Valentines Day. Her heart overflows with love and warmth for all and is in need of some TLC.

Happy February everyone!!!

Stacey

On Tap Notes – January 2015

Happy New Year!

I hope you are all enjoying the beautiful sunshine and fresh crisp air ushering in 2015! I arrived back to Oregon from Hawaii on Saturday with the sunshine following me. We’ll all just have to get together and DANCE to create the warmth.  It’s wonderful to be back and ready to dance. I hope you all enjoyed your holiday break.

I had a great trip to Hawaii visiting our Maui family. Once again our  daughter Ariana  and I  practiced  pilates and yoga on a paddle board while a huge turtle popped it’s head up to see what the heck we were doing!  Then tap dancing on the paddle board shuffled me right into the ocean!  I’ll stick with the” boards on Broadway” and  the tap house for all shuffling!

A very Happy 12th Birthday to Talia Ruehr (Today! New Years Day) and Happy January birthday to Marie Cunningham and Christian Decker !We’ll be doing the birthday dance as the new term begins!

The Winter/Spring 2015 term begins Monday, January 12 at 7:45pm

At the Broadway Studio

Dates are January 12 to March 16  ($150.00)

Spring session will be April 6 to May 25 ($120.00)

I found this clip of tapping cards near Times Square that I have sent out before. Let it be an On Tap New Years  tradition!: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uh0CMcLiRkw&feature=share

Also, a great dance show is coming to Western Oregon University. I watched their rehearsal.  Here are the details:

January 9, 2015  Rainbow Dance Theater

Rainbow Dance Theatre’s ensemble of virtuoso dancers brings their new show to Rice Auditorium. iLumiDance is comprised of works that feature the interplay of dance and illumination. The dancers are sure to amaze audiences of all ages with their athletic “pull-out-the-stops celebration of … dancing that pays homage to world-dance and –music influences” (Sheryl Dare, Honolulu Advertiser). The distinctive choreography of artistic directors Darryl Thomas and Valerie Bergman creates “an exotic feast for the senses”. (Isamu Jordan, Spokane Spokesman Review) rainbowdancetheatre.com/

May 2015 find you tapping into great joy and good health!

Stacey

November 2014

Halloween 2014Happy November from the Pumpkin Percussionists!

As you can see from the photo above November is a happy month so far. We’ve spent some time with tap vocabulary, writing the steps on our pumpkins, practicing them in our minds, with our hands, and ultimately with our feet. This is the official month of gratefulness and thanks. So I’m making it ”tappingly clear” that I am GRATEFUL and THANKFUL to have each and every one of you in the rhythm of my life. YOU are what makes this world a tappy place and I THANK YOU  for sharing your positive energy and joy of tap dance with me. Here are your notes for this month:

1) The week of Thanksgiving the Thursday night tap class will be on Monday, November 24th at 7:30pm

2) I encourage you all to attend:  “Veracity: a Dance Concert” Nov. 13-22 at M. Lee Pelton Theatre, Willamette University, 900 State St. (see more details below)

3) Happy November birthday to Sarah Hoggatt! So happy your feet have landed back on earth into your tap shoes..(at least when you take breaks from your aerial art life!) Thank you for keeping our On Tap Website updated.  You are so creative and generous. We will be doing the birthday dance in class this week!

4) The current class term will continue until Thursday, December 4. Classes will resume Monday January 12 at 7:45pm based on enrollment. I would like to bring the class back to Monday.
